MOPMBA is dedicated to the value of cops hanging out together,
usually on mountain bikes.

The rules for membership are:

  •
You must be a cop to belong (Police Officer sounds too formal)
  •
You do not have to be a Bike Officer
  •
You must have a bike
  •
Does it have to be a Mountain Bike, you ask?  Only if you can hack it, we answer!
  •
Do you have to be a good rider, you ask next?  Good God NO, is our answer!!!  If you had to be a good rider none of us would belong.
  •
You do not have to be an IPMBA certified rider or certified by any other certifying body (LEBA, etc...).  As a matter of fact we reject any affiliation with IPMBA.  Not because they are not a good organization but mostly because we decided that in Missouri we make up our own rules and do not want to listen to what anyone else has to say.  Particularly members of international organizations where members from say... France may have a say in what happens in the Ozark Hills.  Those folks in the Ozarks are a little bit different and we support their right to be different on a regional level.
  •
We do not have any members from the Ozarks by the way.  We do however have a friend from Windsor, MO and we make fun of him a lot.  He is a copper but he doesn't belong to MOPMBA because he is afraid of falling off the bike.
  •
Any copper with a bike can pretty much belong.  However there are no official rules except for the ones we make up as we ride.
  •
Suspensions are frequent and swift.  You may not know that a suspension from the organization is coming or even what you did to get suspended.  However, once suspended you have no say in what the membership will require you to do during a ride.
  •
Fraternalism and the ability to blow off steam while making fun of each other are our main goals and benefits.
  •
We occasionally take on a serious endeavor such as riding our bikes on the MS150 to support research for Multiple Sclerosis.
  •
MOPMBA members also rode in the first annual Lee's Summit Tour De Lakes ride in 2002.  Proceeds from this ride went to help build a memorial soccer field at Lee's Summit's new Legacy Park.
  •
We share a bond of fraternalism with the Fraternal Order of Police and were sponsored by the Missouri FOP and the West Central Missouri Regional Lodge #50 in our 2002 MS150 ride.

Pictures of MOPMBA in action

MOPMBA at the 2002 MS150

At the starting line - Day 1
We're not sure if Jeremy is getting in touch with his feminine side...
but we are pretty sure that Mark (right) is about to morph into his favorite power ranger.

The only one not pictured here is Chuck.
In fact we never saw Chuck until the end of Day 2.  He said he finished way ahead of us...  Uh huh.

Right before the start J clung to Chad's leg for suppor... well, uh... for affection we guess?
But either way it made J feel better and Chad seemed to like it, so who are we to judge.
Our first rest stop -
At this point it was still fun
Jeremy on the phone asking his wife
to come get him.
This was before Chillhowee - Pull up your skirt Jay
Jeremy trying to flatten his own tire to prove his bike won't "let him" go any further
MOPMBA visits Windsor, MO Thinking we had it licked...
The leg after lunch was the easiest
At this stop we even met Brothers and Sisters from FOP Lodge #99
Jeremy and Mark catching up to Chad & Rick
(how come their wire donkey's were so much faster?)
For the last 20 miles of day one our
mountain bikes seemed suited to the Katy Trail
Someone thought it was a nice flat trail
The MOPMBA Brothers coming toward the
finish on Day 1
Four tired geeks at the end of Day 1's
100 Miles
The last few miles Mark and Rick at the finish line - Day 2

As you may have guessed by now MOPMBA is not an official organization designed to do much other than satisfy our need for amusement.  But someday if there is any interest it may become an organization to help further the cause of the profession and more importantly the officers.
If we build it they will come....

If you would like to join MOPMBA just drop us an e-mail and we will determine if you meet the lofty ideals of our organization.
